The first full-length trailer for, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, has hit the internet. Following a short teaser, the Weinstein Company took the opportunity of Nelson Mandela's 95th birthday on Thursday, July 18, to release an extended look into the hotly anticipated biopic. In 2'30'', the video touches on the highlights of Mandela's life as an activist and a leading icon in the movement to end apartheid in South Africa.
Portraying the Nobel Prize winner, who became president of South Africa after 27 years in prison, is British actor Idris Elba. Naomie Harris, also hailing from the UK, plays the leader's second wife, Winnie Mandela.
Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) directed the film, based on Mandela's autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, which he began writing in 1974 while jailed on Robben Island. Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, will arrive in US and Canadian theaters on November 29. Meanwhile, the health of the former South African president, hospitalized since June, remains unstable.
