First poster: Tom Cruise in sci-fi thriller Edge of Tomorrow

Tom Cruise shall be returning with yet another sci-fi thriller, now titled Edge of Tomorrow. The film, originally called All You Need Is Kill, will be directed by The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith director Doug Liman. The film is based on the acclaimed novel All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

The Oscar nominee will star with Emily Blunt (of The Devil Wears Prada fame) in the thriller that certainly seems to have an 'edge'.

Synopsis (Spoiler alert)

The film shows a near future in which an unmatched and ruthless alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth, shredding cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake.

In the film, Cruise plays Lt. Col. Bill Cage, but here's the catch - he's no war veteran or a skilled and experienced commander. Au contraire, he's an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped-untrained and ill-equipped-into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission.

Cage is killed within minutes. But interestingly and impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. And he realises he's stuck in a time loop, that has doomed him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

The international cast also includes Bill Paxton, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, and Franz Drameh.

Slated to open around June 6th 2014, the film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
