New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the central government to clear its stand on Delhi Assembly which is currently in suspended animation.
The Constitutional Bench of the apex court, headed by Justice HL Dattu, said that the Centre needs to be more specific about its endeavours to form government in Delhi. It further asked the competent authority to take decision on dissolving Delhi Assembly within a reasonable time.
“Should the MLAs elected by the public sit idle at home? And for how long people will continue to suffer?” the apex court questioned.
Meanwhile, the SC has adjourned the hearing for five weeks and hopes that appropriate authority will take decision within this period.
The petition to dissolve the Delhi Assembly so that fresh elections could be held was filed by Aam Aadmi Party's convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

Addressing a rally at Jantar Mantar - the popular protest hotspot in the heart of Delhi - Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal attacked the BJP government at the Centre for "not allowing" dissolution of Delhi Assembly as the party was "not ready to face the electorate" in the city.
