ZTE enters smartphone space

Chinese multi-national ZTE Corporation (ZTE) has entered the fastest-growing smartphone market in India by launching six new smartphones in the price range of Rs.5,000-15,000, and four new data card devices in the price range of Rs.1,799-2,499 here on Friday. ZTE is the fourth largest mobile handset manufacturer globally, and has been in India since 1999. Until now, ZTE has been supplying hand phones to Indian telecom service providers such as Airtel and BSNL. About 32 million Indians have been using ZTE handsets. ZTE handsets will be available in the open market. 'India is a key growth market for us. With the foray in the open smartphone market, we are sure to offer an enhanced mobility experience to our Indian customers. By the year-end, we aim to have our pan-India presence with the smartphones and data cards,' Xu Dejun, CEO, ZTE India, said.

The company has entered into partnership with Pune-based Calyx Telecommunications for distributing smartphones to retailers and with Digilife for data cards.
