England has won the toss and will bat first against Australia under cloudy skies in the fourth Ashes test at Chester-le-Street.

Australia brought in Jackson Bird for his first Ashes test, with fellow paceman Mitchell Starc missing out.

England was unchanged as it seeks a draw or victory to a win a third straight Ashes series.

The tourists are 2-0 down but can draw the series by winning the last two tests.
