Both men have been arrested, police said. One of them, Shiv Kumar Raghav, allegedly attempted to slap Tunda on the premises of the Patiala House courts and, after being thwarted by policemen escorting Tunda, managed to land a blow on the alleged terrorist's back.
The second man has been identified as Vishnu Gupta, a former member of the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena, the right wing organisation that claimed credit for assaulting lawyer Prashant Bhushan in his chamber in 2011. Gupta is apparently the president of Hindu Sena now.
Police said Raghav had got close to Tunda after pretending to be a crime reporter from a prominent Hindi news channel.
The two men have been charged with obstructing a public servant from doing his duty, causing hurt to a public servant, and using a forged document.
Inside the courtroom, a few lawyers clamoured to represent Tunda. But a lawyer who is representing several alleged members of the Indian Mujahideen in separate cases informed the court that he had already met Tunda, and would be his counsel.
Tunda told Metropolitan Magistrate Jay Thareja that he was "unable to pay a lawyer", and that he was innocent. He also reportedly said that he was a teacher of the Koran, and that jihad was not about violence against women and children.
The hearing was interrupted by an unidentified lawyer, following which the judge ordered that the proceedings would be held in-camera. The police asked for 10 days' custody, but were given four days after which the court will "re-evaluate" the need for further custody.
