Sri Lankan High Commissioner Prasad Kariyawasam was called to the MoEA and was given a formal demarche, official sources said. India's High Commission in Colombo too raised this matter with the Lankan Foreign Ministry Wednesday.

Salman Kurshid had also brought up the issue with the Lankan Minister of Economic Development last month.

Currently, there are 114 Indian fishermen and 21 fishing boats in Sri Lankan custody.

The Consulate General of India in Jaffna has been in touch with the fishermen.
