Last week they were promised a football stadium by no less than Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren. However, this week, the under-14 girl's of Ranchi's Yuwa India football club have no place to play at all.

For the last 4 years, since American Franz Gastler founded the club, the girls have been practicing in an empty field in Hutup village, around 20 km from Ranchi town. But on Tuesday morning, when the girls turned up for practice, they found that the owners of the field had tilled the land. The owners refused to comment on the matter, but according to villagers, they wanted Yuwa to pay for using their field. Gastler is currently away in the US, and the coaches and trainers who run the club in his absence could not shed light on the matter."This is an act of jealousy," said Rinki Kumari, captain of the team, which only recently returned from their first match abroad, in Spain."Instead of rewards, we are earning more enemies in our villages now," chimed in another team member Supriya Kumari. The girls, however, are not planning to stop playing. "Only one ground has been snatched from us, but there are many others in surrounding areas. We will clear the grass and practice in a new spot," said Kusum Kumari.
