Chhotu, who had accompanied his mother to the fields, fell into the borewell as his mother fed the cattle.

Digging equipment has been brought to the site and a pit is being dug along the borewell. Officials said the rescue operations were carried through Wednesday night, but since the borewell is very deep it is taking time. It is unclear whether the boy is conscious or not but food and water is being dropped into the borewell.

Villagers and family members accused the authorities of not taking prompt action due to lack of resources and blocked a road connecting the village in protest.
