"We want youths and children from minority communities to advance in studies and become doctors, engineers and professionals in different other fields," Banerjee said after attending the largest Eid prayer gathering on Red Road in the heart of Kolkata.
While announcing that reservation of seats would be introduced from 2014-2015 session, the Chief Minister tried to portray her government as a champion of the minority communities.
She announced that avenues of business would be made available to the minorities including opening of shops and other such small scale enterprises and added that a massive restoration programme of burial grounds was on the cards.
However, Qazi Fazlur Rahman, who led the Eid namaz at Red Road, was not swayed. He said most promises made by the government were on paper only.
