The police said that the overloaded Tata Ace vehicle had picked up passengers from Madarihat and was on its way to Birpara. Quoting eyewitnesses, the police said that a truck, coming from the opposite direction, lost control and rammed into the vehicle, killing seven people on the spot. Two others succumbed to their injuries while being taken to Birpara State General Hospital.
