Here are the top seven latest developments on the issue:

1. After convicing the electricity sector employees in Seemandhra, the Andhra Pradesh government succeeded in negotiating with striking teachers to call of their indefintie fast on Thursday night. The teachers agreed to call off the strike after the teachers' Joint Action Committee (JAC) was assured on protection of their interests in the event of the state's division.

2. The government employees, having salary accounts with the Andhra Bank, are being offered one month salary as loan under 'Super Salary Account'. Andhra Bank, a state-owned lender, has started offering one-month salary as loan to striking government employees in Seemandhra region.

3.Unfazed by protests, the Union government ruled out going back on the decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh and create Telangana but gave no indication of timeframe for achieving it.

4. After an appeal from National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) vice chairman M Sasidhar to the striking power employees, they agreed to call off their strike and return to work in view of cyclone threat.

5. YSR Congress Party chief Jaganmohan Reddy is undergoing treatment at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences after he was taken into preventive custody by the police following a five-day fast.

6. The YSR Congress Party has said that former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy never supported a separate state of Telangana, even as it accused that the TDP and the Congress were in hand-in-gloves.

7. Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde has claimed that the Group of Ministers on Telangana will submit its report as early as possible.

8. Union HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju, who has submitted his resignation over the issue, on Thursday skipped the crucial meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education.

9. Curfew in violence-hit Vizianagaram town was relaxed for two hours on Thursday morning to facilitate people to purchase essential commodities as the situation is fast returning to normal.

10. Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh has said that there is no going back on the decision to create Telangana.

With protests from all stakeholders, primarily in the Seemandhra and Rayalseema regions, the creation of Telangana certainly does not seem to be a cakewalk for the UPA government at the Centre. However, despite the strong opposition from the political fraternity as well as the common man, the UPA appears adamant on the decision even as Andhra Pradesh continues to burn in the fire of Telangana.
