The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday announced that action, which may also include removing candidates, will be taken in no more than 24 hours.

The party has asked for the unedited tapes from Chief Executive Officer of media portal Mediasarkar.com and senior journalist Anuranjan Jha.

The move comes after the media portal released tapes and transcripts of an alleged sting operation showing AAP leaders accepting money without proper checks from donors.

Just hours after the sting, AAP National Council member Surajeet Dasgupta resigned from the party.

Candidates deny charge

AAP leader Yogendra Yadav said when candidates shown in the tapes were approached for their first reaction, they strongly contested the claims being made in the tape. They alleged that some of their sentences had been removed from the tapes, he added.

Party chief Arvind Kejriwal tweeted: “Some sting operation has been done on our candidates. Our team, including Sanjay Singh n Yogendra Yadav, looking into it. We will not spare if anyone is guilty. We will walk the talk. There would be absolutely no compromise against corruption. [sic]”

AAP leader Sanjay Singh said: “We won’t hesitate in taking action against the candidates concerned. It does not matter who has made the allegations, what matters is what is in the tape and what action have we taken on the matter.”

Asked about the impact of the sting on the electoral prospects of the party, Dr. Yadav said: “The public won’t just see the sting, but will also see what was there in the tape and what action was taken on that.”

In a statement released late in the evening, the party alleged that the tapes were politically motivated.

“These are excerpts and edited version of a series of sting operations conducted over the last few weeks. We believe that more such “disclosures” maybe in the offing,” the AAP said in a statement.

“The timing and nature of these allegations suggest that these are motivated. It is not surprising that a party that seeks to redefine moral standards in politics is being collectively targeted by powerful vested interests, including the big parties, some corrupt sections of the media and corporate. Nevertheless, the AAP owes an explanation to the nation for every serious allegation, irrespective of its source or the motives,” the party added.
