Farhan Akhtar, who is riding high on the success of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (BMB), seems to have finally zeroed in on his next acting assignment — Rock On 2. Apparently, due to BMB’s success, the sequel to his 2008 hit (Rock On!!) has been put on the fast track. The movie has been in the news for the past two years.

'The franchise (Rock On!!) wants to capitalise on his star status,' says an industry insider, adding, 'Farhan has been looking forward to the sequel, so he is excited.' Like the first part, Rock On 2 will also be produced by Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani’s company. In all likelihood, it will go on the floors by the end of this year. 'By then, he will also have finished shooting for Shaadi Ke Side Effects (with Vidya Balan),' says the insider.

Although Rock On!! did well at the box office, the film’s director Abhishek Kapoor might not be the one helming the sequel. 'They (Farhan and Ritesh) might rope in another young director. While the exact reason for their decision is unknown, Abhishek is likely to be busy around the end of this year. He’ll be working on his next, Fitoor (an adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic, Great Expectations),' informs the source.

Farhan and Abhishek last met publicly at the success party of the latter’s film, Kai Po Che. Their meeting put an end to rumours about a tiff between the two.

While Abhishek was unavailable (his phone was switched off), Farhan couldn’t be reached for a comment either.
