As Kajol turns 39 today (August 5), she speaks to us exclusively about her special day. The actor shares her fondest birthday memories, reveals who wishes her first ever year, and explains why she’s always been excited about this date.
How will you celebrate your birthday?
There are no special plans. I’ll just have a quiet get-together with my family.
Is there any one special birthday memory that you can recall?
Not really. All of them are special. I’m very excited about my birthdays — it is the one special day which is unique and only mine. Everybody is kind and nice to me, and nobody can say no to me on that day (laughs).
What’s the best birthday gift you’ve got?
When I was young — I was 13 or 14 — my mother used to gift me books that I had been dying to read and planning to buy; almost as if she had read my mind. Until two years ago, I used to gift her books on her birthday too.
Do you like cutting cakes?
I love cutting cakes. I love everything about this day.
Who is the first one who wishes you every year?
The first person is usually my father, but now my babies (Nysa and Yug) wake me up in the morning. Even if it’s 7 am, they scream, ‘Happy birthday mom!’.
Are you considering judging a TV show?
No, I am not considering (doing) a TV show as a judge.
What will keep you busy this year?
My kids keep me busy all year round. I will be working soon. Whether it’s in a movie or not, I don’t know. But I hope to be working by the end of the year.
