Chennai Express arrives at Jalandhar

Whether it’s to make their star presence felt or just a repercussion of having a jam-packed schedule — stars are never on time. But when it’s Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, you don’t really have the right to complain.

At Lovely Professional University (LPU) on Saturday for the promotion of their upcoming Chennai Express — in which the duo will be seen after five years of their first pairing in Om Shanti Om — they talk about their love for Punjabi food, Deepika’s ‘accented’ dictionary and more…

Deepike pushes the right buttons, starting off with the Amritsari macchi. 'I tried it during an earlier visit to Amritsar; still can’t forget its tangy taste.'

'I agree with Deepika on this; I always gain weight while shooting in Punjab. I put on three kilograms during the shoot of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi,' interjects Khan.

About being paired-up again, after Deepika’s much-hyped debut in Om Shanti Om, Shahrukh says, 'We wanted a better project after Om Shanti Om. All this while, either I didn’t like the script or she didn’t have time.' Starting to giggle about Deepika’s ‘bokwaas dictionary’, the duo says they carry it everywhere they go. Being her witty self, Deepika adds, 'The dictionary of all my dialogues would be available in book stores soon.'

Including the Lungi Dance song? 'The song is not a part of the movie; it’s a tribute to Rajinikanth. We agreed on doing the song the second Honey Singh made us listen to it.'

King Khan speaks…

On his third child, AbRam

I feel proud to be a father again. I was a little worried about his health and the premature delivery, but now he is recovering quickly.

On the sex-determination controversy

It’s very disheartening to see media spreading such rumours. My child is not well, being a premature baby, and people blew it out of proportion.

Deepika speaks…

On her accent in the movie

Being a south-Indian, I was not new to Tamil. What was difficult was mixing Hindi with Tamil. I had a tutor from Chennai to perfect my dialect.

On doing comedy

It’s not easy and it’s not something you can learn with time. It’s all about

timing.

On crash diets

I am a complete foodie; diets don’t work for me. But, instead of hogging at once, I prefer eating small meals.
