Bappi Lahiri has been part of the Hindi film industry for 40 years now. Now, we’ve been informed that the veteran singer-composer has been signed by Yash Chopra’s production house for the first time to sing a song for their next. He will be the voice of actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor for a cabaret number in their upcoming film. 'It’s hard to imagine Hindi music of the ’80s without Bappi da and it’s even harder to fathom pop music from Kolkata minus him. So, when director Ali Abbas Zafar decided to make a cabaret song for Gunday, which is set in Kolkata of the ’80s, Bappi da was an inevitable choice,' reveals a source close to the production house. 'For months, we were trying to come up with this cabaret song, but a good melody was eluding us. Since it’s meant to be Priyanka Chopra’s introduction song in the film, it had to be special,' says Sohail Sen, the music composer of Gunday, adding, 'Finally, when the song was composed, it turned out to be a number that combines jazz with brass and drums, something that was hugely popular in those days." Bappi too was excited to be part of the film. He has apparently added some of his characteristic nuances to the song that were a rage back in the ’80s. Ask him about this and he says, 'I’m excited to be a part of Gunday. I’ve worked with Sohail’s father, Sameer, many years ago and now I’m working with his talented son. This song is a guaranteed crowd-puller, especially in Kolkata."
